Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest
The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, also known as the Altar of Prayer for Grain, is the venue for holding the grand ceremony of praying for a good harvest in early spring. It was first built in 1420 and is also the earliest building in the Temple of Heaven.
As the iconic building of the Temple of Heaven, its altar is a circular building combining an altar and a hall, which was built according to the ancient saying of "offering sacrifices to the emperor under the roof".
Inside the hall, there are 28 large columns made of golden nanmu. These columns are arranged in a circular pattern. On the beams and purlins in the hall, there are painted colorful paintings of dragons and phoenixes in the He Xi style. The whole building looks magnificent and solemn, demonstrating its unique charm of architectural art.
Besides the main building, the Altar of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, there are also the Hall of Imperial Zenith, the East and West Side Halls, and the Gate of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests around the altar. They echo with the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and jointly form a complete and charming architectural style in this area.
