Jingshan Park

Geographical Location and Historical Status
Jingshan Park is located at the central point of the north-south central axis of Beijing. Its geographical location is both special and significant. It lies to the south of the Forbidden City, closely adjacent to this magnificent complex of imperial palaces, as if it were the guardian of the Forbidden City. To the west, it is adjacent to Beihai Park, contrasting with that picturesque water landscape. Looking north, it faces the Drum Tower from a distance, jointly forming the unique skyline of Beijing. In the past, Jingshan was the highest point in the center of Beijing. Standing on top of Jingshan, one could have a panoramic view of many aspects of the city, witnessing its rise and fall and the changes it has undergone.

This place witnessed the desperate act of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty when Li Zicheng's peasant rebel army stormed into Beijing at the end of the Ming Dynasty, carrying a heavy burden of historical memory.
