The Zhengyangmen Gate
Zhengyangmen was first built in 1439 and was originally named Lizhengmen. Calculated up to now, it has a history of nearly 600 years. It bears the heavy marks of the years and can be regarded as the symbolic representation of the old city of Beijing.
It is one of the "Nine Gates of the Capital". It is deeply loved by Beijingers, and they affectionately call it "Qianmenlouzi". Moreover, after going through the baptism of the long years and many changes, Zhengyangmen is the only relatively intact old city gate remaining in the city of Beijing, which makes it even more precious and bears unique historical and cultural values.
Zhengyangmen as a whole consists of three parts: the city tower, the arrow tower and the barbican. However, the barbican has been demolished in the process of later urban construction and so on. Now only the city tower and the arrow tower are left. They stand on both sides of Qianmen Street across the street, echoing each other from a distance and forming the unique landscape features of the Qianmen area.
Among them, the building close to Tiananmen Square is the city tower. After tourists climb up the city tower, they can learn about the development history of the ancient city of Beijing and its unique local customs through the rich and diverse display contents in the exhibition halls on each floor. It's as if they are traveling through the long river of history to experience the past bits and pieces of this city and have a different experience full of cultural charm.
